QUESTION 5: What else did God create?a

Answer: God created all things by his powerful Word, and all his creation was very good; everything flourished under his loving rule.b

Scripture: And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. (Genesis 1:31)

  • b.) Genesis 1:1. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Psalm 33:6, 9. By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host… For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. Hebrews 11:3. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible. Revelation 4:11. Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.

QUESTION 6: How can we glorify God?a

Answer: We glorify God by enjoying him, loving him, trusting him, and by obeying his will, commands, and law.b

Scripture: You shall therefore love the Lord your God and keep his charge, his statutes, his rules, and his commandments always. (Deuteronomy 11:1)

QUESTION 7: What does the law of God require?a

Answer: Personal, perfect, and perpetual obedience; that we love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength; and love our neighbor as ourselves. What God forbids should never be done and what God commands should always be done.b

Scripture: And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.c This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.d On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” (Matthew 22:37-40)

  • b.) 1 Samuel 15:22. And Samuel said, “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. Psalm 119:4. You have commanded your precepts to be kept diligently. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. QUESTION 8: What is the law of God stated in the Ten Commandments?a

Answer: You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below—you shall not bow down to them or worship them. You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God. Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Honor your father and your mother. You shall not murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not give false testimony. You shall not covet.b c

Scripture: You shall have no other gods before me. (Exodus 20:3)
